Sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides will form sulfuric acid and nitric acid when they are released to the atmosphere, true or false ?Its all about true or false , help me ?
Short answer: True.
Nitrogen monoxide, released from cars and formed by lightning, reacts with the oxygen in the air, and forms nitrogen dioxide. This combines with the water in the atmosphere, and forms HNO3, Nitric acid.
Sulphur dioxide will react with the water to form H2SO3, Sulphurous acid.
I'm not sure about this next point, because usually it needs a V2O5 catalyst, but I think some SO2 will react with oxygen to form SO3, which reacts with water to form H2SO4, Sulphuric acid.
