True or False: Christianity was originally created as a way to gain power and control the masses?

';Religion is what keeps the poor man from murdering the rich.'; Napoleon BonaparteTrue or False: Christianity was originally created as a way to gain power and control the masses?
False. In Antioch, when the term was first used, Christians were a tiny and persecuted Semitic minority. It is quite unlikely they were under any illusion that any time in their own lifetimes there'd be any ';masses'; to ';control.';True or False: Christianity was originally created as a way to gain power and control the masses?
Well, if that was the case, it was a complete failure (for anyone involved in its conception).

Every apostle (including Paul) except John were murdered for their beliefs. Christians were being killed even while the New Testament was still being written. Power? Only if being thrown into prison, whipped, beaten, and finally murdered is power.

It also was certainly not created as a way to control the masses. Judaism did a much better job of that than Christianity. If anything, it was created as a way loose all power, but to free the masses!

Therefore, 100% FALSE!
Just like every other religion.
False
False
I,m a non-religious history nut. I never got that impression from the hundreds of history books that I've read. What was your source ?
I don't know about ';originally';. It may have been created as a mystery religion for the Hebrews, like the many other extant mystery religions of the era, but then was changed into a literal form and used to gain power and control the masses. I'm not sure we'll ever know for sure exactly how it began, since the Roman Catholic Church did its best to eradicate any and all documents that contradicted the ';official'; version.
TRUE!!! It is still being used in that manner.
True
Totally true. Created to gain power, control the masses and blackmail the lands and money from the people.
True all the way!!!!!!!!
The first 3 centuries of Christianity shows they were brutally persecuted. The first 30 popes were martyred.

And you call that a way to gain power and control masses? If anything, in todays world the real ';gaining power and control masses'; is the Dictator of Moral Relativism, which is diametrically opposed to Christianity.
Where did you come up with an idea like that? False.
False. I think that, at the very beginning, it was intended to be a true following of the teachings of a good man. However, I do think that it was corrupted rather quickly. It's pretty sad.
False.
Looking back at the early years (prior to Constantine in the 3rd Century) you would be hard pressed to prove your case that they had any ';power and control'; over the masses.
False... The teaching of Jesus were originally about love and compassion.

But... The Christian faith was derailed by Constatine and the Council of Nicea in 312 AD. It became the state religion and was then used to gain power and control the masses.

So, not originally, but later on.
Originally? No, Christ wanted love not power control

Historically? Yes, because people wanted power

Spiritually? No, because it speaks for another world

Socially? Yes, because it affected the whole world

Money Power? Yes and No
Have you met the masses? Nobody wants to control them. They are dolts... Their assets and finances on the other hand....
100% TRUE!
True
totally false.
False. It was a way to get persecuted and tortured by the Roman regime who regarded their emporer as a god.
True because it was the Romans who came up with Christianity an their whole means wus world domination they heard of Jesus in they're conquest of Africa an used it to their advantage over the weak minded
