Depends how you define metal.

If an element is a gas at room temperature AND at one atmosphere of pressure, then it's probably a non-metal. The pressure is important.





Even then, mercury does evaporate at standard temperature and pressure (STP).

Also, one said hydrogen is a metal! thats not true, just because it is in the first group that doesn't make it a metal!!!





And just because some metals like mercury have some vapour pressure at room temp., that does not make them gases!!

First of all Iodine is not a metal. It is a nonmetal.
